Service Description

Provides a subsidy of 25 to 70% of the city's average child care cost for eligible parents who are employed or in a training program.
Those working parents with income less than minimum guidelines may apply for child care payment assistance at or their local DSHS community service office.
Program covers partial cost of child care paid directly to the child care provider, which is chosen from a list of 137 family child care homes and child care centers that have contracts with the City of Seattle Comprehensive Child Care Program.
At the time of enrollment, the family will be given a voucher, which authorizes monthly child care payments to the child care home or center that they choose from the city of Seattle's provider list.

Have a gross family income (before taxes are taken out) within the guidelines:

- 4 $3,977 - $5,964
- 5 $4,653 - $6,978
- 6 $5,329 - $7,992

Be ineligible for DSHS Working Connections Program (families below these guidelines may be eligible for DSHS assistance).
Have children, ages one month up to 13 years old.

Application Instructions

Families are screened over the phone.
Questions during screening include amount of your family income, family size, name, address and phone number.
If guidelines are met, family will be scheduled for an appointment with a program intake representative.

Documents required at the interview:

- Children's birth certificate
- Address verification
- Income documentation.


Amount of the payment from the city of Seattle varies according to family income and the child's age.
Family is responsible for paying the difference between the child care program's usual fee and the amount that the city of Seattle pays.
