On the page that displays the list of search results you can narrow down the list of services by clicking on the "Narrow Search Results by Service Features" link in the "Narrow Your Results" pane. (Click inside a checkbox to check off a feature).

After checking off the features, click the "Narrow Results" button. The list of services that appears will be changed to include any services that offer ANY of the features you selected. The services that match most closely to ALL of the features you selected will be higher in the list. Services that don't offer any of your selected features will not appear in the list.

How does "Enter a Location" work?

Choose the geographic area you're in - or that you want to search in - by using the location selection tools. If you make no geographic selection the setting will default to "All Locations", meaning you'll see all the matching services in the entire database.

Here's what happens when you select the different location options:

County

A drop-down list will appear, containing all of the counties you can choose from. Click on the County that you want to search in, then click the "Limit List" button if you're doing a Topic search or click "Start a Search" if you're doing a Keyword search. The search result list will contain services that serve the County you selected. You'll be able to toggle between services that are physically located inside that County, and those that serve that County but are located elsewhere.

City

In the "Enter City" text box, type the name of the city you want to search in. Then, click the "Limit List" button if you're doing a Topic search or click "Start a Search" if you're doing a Keyword search. Address

Type a valid street address in the "Enter address" text box. Type a valid city name in the "City" text box. OR, instead of entering the City name, enter a Zip code for that City in the "Zip" text box. Click "Limit List" if you're doing a Topic search, or click "Start a Search" if you're doing a Keyword search. The search result list will contain services that serve the county that the Address is located in. How does "Narrow Your Results by Group" work?

The "by Group" pane on the left side of the Search Results page organizes the list of services in different categories in order to help you find what you need. You can use this to group and narrow down the service list in different ways: by Topic, by County, by City, or by Features. Here's an explanation of each of these options:

Topic

Every service in our database is indexed using a standard coding system known as a "taxonomy", which is a way of organizing the types of services provided. Each service in the "Search Results" list may be assigned one or more taxonomy codes, and the Topic list shows all of the taxonomy terms that are assigned to the services in the list. The number of services assigned to any term in the "by Group" list is shown in (parentheses) to the right of each term.

Clicking on any of the terms in this list will change the result list, displaying services from the original list the match the term selected.

County

Change to a list of Counties by choosing "County" from the "Other Groups:" list and clicking the "Change" button. A list of States will be displayed. This list is based on the locations at which services are provided.

Use the +/- controls next to the States and Counties to find the County that you'd like to use to narrow down the service list. Click on that County to narrow the list.

City

Change to a list of Cities by choosing "City" from the "Other Groups:" list and clicking the "Change" button. A list of States will appear. This list is based on the physical addresses of the programs.

Use the +/- controls next to the States and Cities to find the City that you'd like to use to narrow down the service list. Click on that City to narrow the list.

Feature

Change to a list of Service Features by choosing "Feature" from the "Other Groups:" list and clicking the "Change" button. A list of feature categories will appear. This list is based on the special features offered by the services in the "Search Results" list. Please see the "What does 'Narrow Search Results by Service Features' mean?" FAQ for a description of Service Features.

Use the +/- controls next to the feature categories to expand/contract them to find a Special Feature that you'd like to use to narrow down the service list. Click on that Special Feature to narrow the list and display only the services that offer that Special Feature.

You can return to the full list of services by clicking the "View All Results" link in the "by Group" list.

How can I make the text larger or smaller?

Why are search results sometimes split between "in county" and "outside county"?

When you choose a geographic limiter other than "All Locations" as one of your search options, the system searches for services that serve the selected County. Some services that serve a County are actually located outside of that County, so to make that more obvious we split the results between services that are located within the County and services that are located outside the County but are available to residents of the selected County.

You can toggle between these two lists by using the link at the top of the result list.

What if I see incorrect information?

If you know that information about a service is incorrect or has changed, please let us know by contacting the appropriate Region in the WIN211 system based on the provider's county.
